One of my most cherished times of the day is bedtime. Since the girls were little, I have always read to them at night. Since they are 2 years apart with different interests, I read to them separately. For my oldest, the Nancy Drew series has been our favorite for years. We are now reading the newest release in the Nancy Drew Diaries series but we have also read Nancy Drew and the Clue Crew Series as well as all of the older Nancy Drew books. There are several series out there and all have different mysteries.
For my 8 year old who loves animals, we have found a few series that interest her. One of our all time favorites is the Zoe’s Rescue Zoo series by Amelia Cobb and Sophy Williams. These books are about a young girl, Zoe, who lives at a rescue zoo with her mother, the zoo vet. As her Great Uncle travels the world, he brings back lost animals that need a home. Zoe has a secret gift of being able understand and speak to the animals, welcoming them into the zoo like no one else can.
When we finished all of the Zoe’s Rescue Zoo books, we got hooked on a series called Dolphin School. This series is about a magical dolphin named Pearl and her adventures in the Salty Sea. We are currently reading the last book in the Whatever After Series. This adventurous series follows a brother and sister who are magically transported into fairy tales. Each book puts them in a different fairy tale, like Snow White or Hansel and Gretel.
Our Favorite Book Series for Girls (ages 6-15)
- Zoe’s Rescue Zoo
- Dolphin School
- Whatever After Series
- The Puppy Place Series (my 8 year old reads these on her own)
- Nancy Drew and the Clue Crew Series (This is the first Nancy Drew series we read aloud, but great for early readers too.)
- For older readers: Nancy Drew Diaries (These can get a bit intense! My 10 year old and I love it when the suspense forces us to read ONE MORE chapter!)
